Interim Climate and Energy Team Leader - Greenpeace Nordic
Greenpeace Nordic is seeking a Team Leader to lead the Nordic energy and climate team for one year. The Climate and Energy team consists of energetic and skillful campaigners in the four Nordic offices in Helsinki, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. The individual in this position will be responsible for making sure the overall strategic direction of our projects are in line with our global priorities and goals. The individual will also likely lead a major project leading up to the climate conference in Paris in December 2015 and beyond.
The Climate and Energy team leader will work closely with the Programme managers in the 4 Nordic offices and other Unit heads and together act as an advisory team to the Programme director. Coordination and contact is also required with the counterparts in other Greenpeace offices and the global headquarters in Amsterdam.
This position requires the ability to work independently while maintaining strong team relationships, a willingness to travel and an openness to new experiences. Emphasis on strong strategic and project management skills. No line management responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Leadership and Coordination:
- Lead the development of campaign strategies and project plans based on achieving goals, which will have global implications for selected campaigns, and which will be implemented at the domestic and pan-Nordic level. The plans are developed in conjunction with campaign team consisting of other campaigners in Nordic, representatives of other departments and units and the Programme Director.
- Coordinate the skillsharing and expertise distribution for the climate and energy team, fostering edge and risk taking in campaigning
- Provide expertise and input on the development of global campaign strategies, global campaign projects, and funding proposals where relevant; and keep abreast of external movements/trends, in the context of the agreed global campaign strategy, in order to identify campaign/pubic engagement opportunities, and ensure the campaign project/on-going issue strategy has realistic objectives, and maintains viability and potential.
- Maintain contact with international and regional issue co-ordinators and provide relevant domestic input into global strategies and objectives
- Contribute to and support the organizational change and learning work
Project Management:
- Project manage one major Nordic and/or global implementation of a project with about 50% of capacity.
- Manage overall climate and energy program calendar to track future opportunities or campaigning moments
- Manage project-specific budgets, including coordinating
- Provide quality input to Nordic overall three year plan
- Provide quality input to internal evaluations as needed
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience and Accomplishments:
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and cultural competency required to build relationships with diverse groups both to achieve short-term goals and to foster long-term trust; ability to work with a variety of people and groups
- A relevant educational degree or at least five years of applied campaigning experience from Greenpeace or elsewhere, in addition to at least three years of Greenpeace campaign experience.
- Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team, inspire activists, and build leaders
- Proven experience in directing a project from conception to completion
- Ability to use independent judgment and decision-making
- Commitment to nonviolence and organizing as means of affecting change
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25%-30% of the time.
